Magic Leap-The Best of all MR DEVice

Magic leap ,the most secretive commercial project ever amazes us in every possible way.The infamous splashing whale from Magic Leap’s marketing videos gave us goosebumps.It made us think about the technology thats been behind the scene doing the actual work.The Magic Leap,technology does take inspirations from thatof google glass and Microsoft Hololens. But in the process of
development and concept design it had gone generations beyond the competitors.Unlike other competitors in the VR  technology field,magic leap does not limit itself to the FOV,DOF,Per Eye Resolution and  and head movement tracking.

Magic Leap manifest's objects into a person’s field of view with a level of realism beyond what we have seen so far fromother similar devices like google glass and Microsoft's Hololens. Magic Leap will come in two parts: a pair of glasses and A small pocket projector/computer unit,

DESIGN:The glass will be sized like that of any normal glasses.Since most of the hardware is placed in the computer unit,the glass unit becomes less bulky .The pocket unit will be the size of a rectangular smartphone without a screen .It will do incorporate some input output ports and indicators.The pocket unit connects with the glass via a fibre optics cable.

What the pocket unit incorporates within its casing?

Battery:This device draws similar amount of power like most of todays smartphones .But keeping in mind the projector and the host of sensor that are constantly working,the battery are sure to drain faster.Hence the device must pack some serious amount of power inside its casing.We may thus expect about 5000mAh to start with.

CPU/GPU:These kind of MR operations need some quick computing and hence the processing speed must be good enough.We expect the,device uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 802/835 Soc .The eight core chip will reduce power consumption by an estimate of 40% or increase performance by 27 %, depending on its configuration.Both of these are important to the device.The new CPU also comes
with Quick Charge 4.0 which means faster charging of battery.The new 10nm chip also has its GPU ,which may be enough for the graphics operations,taking into consideration the fact that only some components ,and not the entire scene needs to be rendered. RAM:Memory requirements may well be like that of an smartphone. So we can expect a Ram size of 3 to 4 GB,

Connectivity, WiFi, Bluetooth Connection, SIM Card(if any), GPS etc all will be placed right inside the pocket unit Camera:Like any other MR device ,the need of multiple sensors and camera's are quite obvious. Hence there needs to be at least two cameras on the glasses  along with some sensors .The pocket unit too may host a number of cameras and sensors.
The requirements of the cameras on the headset to do SLAM are very different than the requirements for a good consumer camera.Hence the camera meant for taking quality images and videos will be placed in the pocket unit.You can just pick up the device and click a pic and view it directly as
you click over the glass.

Laser Projector:This is the part that cannot be ignored if you are talking about the MAGIC LEAP 's innovation. Moving the projection system off of the glasses and on to the pocket unit
will result in a significant size saving for the final product. The projected light is produced on the pocket device and then sent up to the headset via a fiber optic cable.

The Glasses:

Though most of the components are stripped off the glass unit and placed in the pocket unit,the glass does hold something.These are.. IMU:This will be a traditional accelerometer, gyroscope and
compass. Headphones:We may expect the use of bone conducting headphones instead of normal one, as seem in the google glass.This is more important beacuse unlike normal headphones ,Bone conducting has the advantage that you can hear the outside world as well as the played audio.

Optics:The optics  are the most important and interresting one if the case is of magic leap.The ptics used are special ones ,as the use the directional fibre glass which projects the generated holographic image right in the users eye .These gives the user a mixed reality experience of the real as well the generated image view.


The drive electronics in the pocket unit produces and transmits high resolution holographic image through fiber optic cables embeded in the lens system itself.The generated image is projected into the users eyes.These gives the user a experience of mixed reality,mixing the realtime image  with the generated  holographic images.

These Mixed reality experience can be seen as  the future form of entertainment.Though the future of eneterainment looks promising with the Mixed Reality devices around the corner,its still some time when we get the final product in our hands.
